Korea’s Coming Out With A Live-Action JIN-ROH Movie

While the original JIN-ROH: THE WOLF BRIGADEĀ anime depicted a dystopian alternate history of Japan, South Korea is adapting their live-action version of the harrowing storyline to its own troubled political climate. Whereas the OG anime follows a disgraced anti-terror operative in a post-WWII Japan controlled by a triumphant, tyrannical Germany, according to the Korea Times, the new film “tells the story of a special task force’s attempt to create a unified government for the two Koreas.”

Slated to premiere in South Korea at the end of the July, the live-action adaptation has lined up a star-studded Hallyu cast that includes Gang Dong-won, Han Hyo-joo, Jung Woo-sung, Kim Mu-yeol, Han Ye-ri, and k-pop idol Choi Min-ho, with Kim Jee-woon (THE AGE OF SHADOWS, THE LAST STAND) in the director’s chair. We’re pretty intrigued to see how they’ll modify Mamoru Oshii’s story to their own fraught history, particularly in the wake of recent peace developments (and…undevelopments).
